Women's Studies Strategic Fund

Founded as a modest program in 1973, Women’s Studies has since become one of the foremost hubs of feminist scholarship and activism in the world. Our department provides students with a critical, interdisciplinary education in which they engage with issues of gender, sexuality, race, class, and disability. Students collaborate closely with our renowned faculty, and learn beyond the classroom by participating in real world activism and practicum. 45 years after our founding, Women’s Studies remains a uniquely vibrant and close-knit community dedicated to using theory and practice to improve the lives of all people.

Description

This fund provides support to the Chair's initiatives, including research support for incoming faculty, internships for undergraduate students, and ongoing support for seminars, speakers, and other event to promote the Department.

What do gifts support?

A gift to Women’s Studies’ strategic fund can serve any number of functions. It can support our new Gender & Health undergraduate major, which examines healthcare from a feminist perspective and is the first of its kind in the nation. It can fund a student’s research trip to a distant archive with resources she couldn’t access otherwise. It can provide students with financial support as they pursue a meaningful but unpaid internship. However it is used, your gift allows Women’s Studies to remain agile and proactive in supporting a new generation of feminist leaders.

Why are donations necessary?

Women's Studies continues to grow. In recent years, our graduating cohorts have gotten larger and larger, and our faculty expertise has expanded in everything from African American women's history to LGBTQ studies. We continue to attract outstandingly talented students and scholars, who keep us at the forefront of feminist teaching and research with their boundless curiosity. We can only keep pace with their enthusiasm because of gifts from our alumni and friends. Your support is what makes it possible for us to grow and adapt, ready to make a positive difference in our ever-changing world.
